OUR HISTORY
Over 50 years inspiring creativity in the world of art and scale modelling
In the autumn of 1965, in New Jersey, USA, what we know today as Acrylicos Vallejo was born. Since then, our passion for paint and creativity has been the driving force behind every step of our journey.
Bringing animation to life
We began by specializing in the manufacture of acrylic colours for animated cartoons. It was the first step in a journey that would forever change the way artists brought their creations to life. In 1969, we moved to Barcelona and continued producing the renowned Film Color range.
The exceptional formulation of these colours became essential for leading animation studios in Europe, marking the beginning of our influence in the creative world.
The revolution in Fine Arts colours
In 1972, the visionary Amadeo Vallejo took a revolutionary step by developing the Acrylic Artist's Color range. These were the first acrylics for Fine Arts manufactured in Spain and among the first in Europe.
A few months later, we launched the Liquid Watercolor range, designed specifically for design and illustration.
Acrylic Studio: quality within everyone's reach
In 1981, in response to requests from professors at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Barcelona, we created the Acrylic Studio colour range. The goal was clear: to provide artists with the highest-quality acrylic colours, made with pigments selected for their durability, at an accessible price and in large formats.
This presentation was revolutionary and marked the beginning of a new era of expansion for our company. Decades later, this colour range became a benchmark for the art industry.
Continuous innovation
In 1986, we introduced the first range of acrylic colours designed specifically for airbrushing. At the beginning of the following decade, we formulated the first series of colours for scale modelling enthusiasts and decorative arts.
Our company, which began as a family business, is taking steps to become a more professionalized and international company, allowing us to reach more artists around the world. The development of new products remains part of our DNA, which is why we continue to invest in innovation and development.
We continue to be manufacturers, as we believe that controlling the entire production process ensures the quality of our products. Our philosophy remains firm: “to improve the qualities of our colours in order to continue offering products of exceptional quality to all artists.”
From a garage to a world of possibilities
From the 1970s to the present day, we have expanded our facilities on several occasions. From our modest 30 m² garage, where the first batches of colours were produced, to our current facilities of more than 3,500 m².
Today, Acrylicos Vallejo is the leading global specialist in acrylic colours for scale modelling, offering our customers the most complete selection of colour ranges and accessories for this sector.
A world of full-colour inspiration
Today, Vallejo products are exported to more than 60 countries. In a decisive step towards the future, we are investing in the construction of new facilities of more than 10,000 m², strategically distributed to improve our production capacity and optimize our processes.
With an 8,800 m² building and a height of 12 m, our new facilities will house a warehouse of approximately 3,000 m², a large production area of 2,980 m², a 600 m² space for various services and 1,600 m² of offices.
Efficiency and new operations
This significant investment in a new factory has the main objective of transforming our operations to make them more agile and efficient. We aim to produce against stock, based on historical data and our customers’ sales forecasts, in order to adjust inventories to the real needs of the market.
In addition, the automation of our paint production will allow us to expand our capacity and improve product quality. Optimizing the packaging process will be another key focus, reducing times and improving efficiency.
We will have a single warehouse, which will facilitate more efficient management and open up new opportunities for e-commerce, allowing us to reach our customers more directly. Inventory coordination will also be optimized, enabling us to reduce costs and guarantee a more efficient supply.
Sustainability and well-being
The new facilities will be designed not only to optimize production, but also to become a benchmark in sustainability and respect for the environment. We will have a wastewater treatment plant that will allow us to reuse water in our processes, reducing environmental impact.
In addition, we will install solar panels to reduce our energy consumption and adopt integrated waste management, ensuring a more responsible process. We have also created rest areas to improve the well-being of our employees.
Finally, the new factory will become a key space for strengthening our corporate image, with a showroom that will enhance our marketing strategies and allow us to showcase the quality of our products live. This ambitious project reflects our commitment to innovation and continuous growth, consolidating us as a more competitive company prepared to face the challenges of the market.
At Vallejo, our mission is to inspire creativity and offer the highest-quality products to artists around the world. More than 50 years of experience support our passion and commitment in this artistic journey that we share with each and every one of you. Thank you for trusting Vallejo, where colour comes to life.
