In the 1970s, the US Mobility Equipment Research & Design Command (MERDC) developed a camouflage pattern system for United States Army vehicles. These consisted of standardized patterns for each vehicle, to be used with a twelve-color system. The set includes all the tones required to represent the Grey and Red Desert patterns.
